As an indie and rock DJ, many of my enquiries come from couples who are “serious” about their music. When I say “serious” I’m not bashing pop fans, but us indie kids can be a bit particular about what tunes we listen and dance to, so I’m often approached by people who have considered making their own playlist but have decided that they’d rather get someone else to do it i.e. Me! I’m the first to admit that a DIY approach to your wedding can be an excellent way to make the day as personal as possible but is the music something you can really be bothered with, when you should be spending your evening chatting to your guests and having a ball with your new spouse? Probably not.
I’m a bit of a hypocrite here as I did all the music for my own wedding but I do it for a living anyway, so it’s a bit different. Not only did I own all the right equipment and have access to tens of thousands of songs but I spent weeks, if not months, meticulously curating the perfect playlist so I didn’t have to do anything on the night except press play (ok, I may have adjusted the volume upwards a couple of times as well). And that’s exactly the sort of level of service I try to provide to all my clients – because I enjoy doing it and because I love trying out new song combinations and working out different ways to mix between different genres. If you’re considering doing the music yourself, then you’ll already have a list of songs that you want to play but putting them in the right order is an underappreciated artform – and of course it may be that your own playlist is so niche that it ends up alienating half your guests. Letting someone do it for you can save the awkward silences when a song stops suddenly or the flatness experienced when a drunken host insists on a half an hour medley of obscure tunes that only a few people know. When it’s supposed to be your best day ever, do you really want the hassle of the responsibility of the enjoyment of your guests? You wouldn’t serve them their food, or tell them what to wear and the evening do is the part that people tend to remember the most so, whilst self DJing might save you some pennies, the money spent would be well worth it for you and your guests to have the best possible time. And when you factor in that you’ll probably have to hire a PA and spend a good amount of time working out what songs to play, I’m probably cheaper than the use of a hundred or so chair covers!

...to my new website that is. It's been a long time coming but I hope you like it.
